Independent Image Analysis by Qualified Experts
MMI conducts reliable, independent evaluations of medical images from global, multi-center clinical trials. Our readers are board-certified, fellowship-trained, practicing physicians with an average of nearly 10 years’ clinical experience per reader. Our experts include key contributors to the scientific literature, editors of high-impact journals, presidents of major professional societies, and advisors to government agencies. Our expertise includes the following subspecialties:
- Musculoskeletal radiology
- Interventional radiology
- Orthopedic surgery
- Vascular surgery
- Body imaging
We place a high emphasis on reader reliability and effective use of the latest analysis techniques and display technologies. Where appropriate, we produce objective, quantitative measurements using validated software. Our readers have extensive experience in clinical trials, and understand the requirement for maintaining consistency and high attention to detail.
Reader Training and Certification
We implement comprehensive training programs for every study we support. Each reader must demonstrate acceptable understanding of the image assessment criteria and review methodologies before joining the study. Live discussions, blinded image reviews, and mock reads are conducted on pre-selected cases to verify effectiveness of training. To assure minimum variation across readers, certification programs are implemented to establish group consensus on study-specific image review criteria. Where appropriate, reference atlases of images are produced to provide guidance to readers on difficult cases.
Reliability Testing and Performance Monitoring
Routine tests of observer reliability (inter- and intra-reader) are conducted to assure long-term reproduciblity throughout the study. All tests are conducted on a per-assessment basis. Observer agreement statistics are obtained at predetermined intervals and verified against standards obtained from the literature and prior experience. Other performance metrics are also collected, including on-time rate, non-conformance rate, and adherence to proprietary quality standards. Tests are conducted per SOPs and prospectively-defined acceptance criteria.
